[opensuse] Kernel Update Broke Compiz - Now the White Screen of Death
Listmates, J., Last night's kernel update to 2.6.25.18-0.2-default broke Compiz on my Toshiba x86_64 w/ATI x1300. What do I check? How do I fix it? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Listmates, The problem was a loose nut behind the keyboard. The fglrx kernel module just needed to be rebuilt. Compiz is fine. If you are using the ATI driver and find yourself with the same issue, then: If the driver is from the ATI binary (as root): fglrx-kernel-build.sh && modprobe fglrx && depmod -A If the driver is from the openSuSE ATI repository and you have problems, I think you will need to reinstall the driver, because IIRC the openSuSE package doesn't include the fglrx-kernel-build.sh script. Also, if you are using virtualbox, don't forget to (as root): rcvboxdrv setup && modprobe vboxdrv && depmod -A Good luck -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
