Tomcat ?? Where to get it
Hi All, I have to learn how to use a Java based web portal that will run on most web servers. To run on Linux it needs to have Java on Apache, I have been advised that it is better to use something called Tomcat. Could someone please direct me to where I can find out some more information on Tomcat. Thanks in advance. Shane Broomhall Brisbane Australia shanebroomhall@computer.org shanebroomhall@airforce.net

Linux Magazine in the current issue (October 2001) has an article entitled "Hangin' with Tomcat", which IMO is very good as an introductory article. It's 5 pages and covers everything from installation to configuration. The first page in its entirety covers just the philosophy behind it (i.e. why is something like this needed? What _is_ it?, etc.). Technically, it's a "reference implementation of the Java Servlet 2.3 and Java Server Pages 1.2 Specification" (page 29 of LM). It allows one to basically create "web applications" (i.e. dynamic content) using the power and flexibility of Java. ONJava.com [ http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2001/04/19/tomcat.html ] also has a good introduction, I feel. -- noodlez: Karol Pietrzak PGP KeyID: 0x3A1446A0

There is also a good 'newbie' article at ..... www.linux.com/enhance/newsitem.phtml?sid=1&aid=12532 Cheers Phil -- Linux 2.4.4-4GB 5:35pm up 3 days, 31 min, 1 user, load average: 1.03, 0.28, 0.09
