You've got it right, but you need to add -quit as an option to xv so that is puts the image up and returns control to the window manager. Also, you may need to append an '&' to the end of the line. The string would look something like this: Exec "I" exec xv -root -quit /patjh to image/image.jpg Hope this helps.
