How the ^%#@^ is this guy and why do I get mail from him on and off this list? Even though some of it is interesting I would like to stop him from sending me this crap off-list. Why does the list admin let him keep sending spam to the list? -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh@cfl.rr.com

Don't you mean "who"? You must be a newbie to this list. Fred is the unofficial Linux newsource to the list. He frequently posts URLs of Linux news and stories and his 'service' is appreciated by many folks on the list.. Put a filter on him if you don't want to get his contributions. JLK -- Scientific theories, according to Sir Karl Popper, can be "falsified," or proven wrong, by experiment. Unscientific theories -Marxist dialectical history and Freudian psychology were Popper's favorites- are formed in such a way that they cannot be falsified by data.

Why do I get mail from him OFF-list.
I think it's like the others have suggested about procmail rules. I never get any thing offlist from Fred Miller. BTW to Fred - I too enjoy your mailings, keep 'em up. -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Butler Universal Networks Information Tech. I don't see the point. Fred is a nice person who likes to share interesting news with us all. This list would be a little boring without the flavours of Fred's contribution. IMHO. Relevant gossip/URLs can hardly be classified as spam. I'd rather give Fred a friendly pat for his contributions. Niels

Same here. I am more angry anout endless quoting, quoting list sigs and sigs over and over again in a message. Getting this stuff offlist is another thing. Did you set up a procmail rule that "went wrong"? Otherwise, you should contact Fred off list to clearyfy things... Juergen

This is kind of mean. Anyone subscribed to a list like this is going to get hundreds of messages a week anyway, and not all of them will be of interest. It's just par for the course to have to delete these. I don't think Fred Miller sends an egregiously large number of posts, nothing that justifies targeting him. It would be very easy to filter them, or just delete them based on the sender and subject line alone. One of the things that is nice about this list is how congenial everyone is. Let's try to keep that up. I appreciate that getting mail off-list would be annoying. I am a little mystified by this. However, if you are getting mail off-list, what is the point of telling the list about it? Obviously the only person who could do anything about that is Fred Miller, to whom this complaint should have been personally sent. BTW, Mark, your MTA seems a little overzealous. My mail comes back with the following message: Final-Recipient: RFC822; <dmarkh@cfl.rr.com> Action: failed Status: 5.1.1 Remote-MTA: dns; flmx01.mgw.rr.com (65.32.1.38) Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 5.0.0 Sympatico Blocked Due to Spam -- Corvin Russell <corvinr@sympatico.ca>
some of us find his post interesting. All you need to do is to set your emial to filter out his email address and presto , hes gone. At 07:32 AM 1/14/2001 -0500, Mark Hounschell wrote:
