I've searched en.opensuse.org, and I don't see a "minimum system requirements" page at all. I do recall that v10.1 or 10.2 started the requirement of needing 256MB RAM. IF you have your partitioning already setup, you can add the existing swap partition as swap. probably the same. I couldn't install the 11 on this computer, nor with kde4 cd (no dvd reader there) - because there is no "install" option before going live and, even if the live goes up, there is not enough memory left to install :-( Net install failed as well during repository management. Mandriva (very last version) an slackware are able to install (slack with as little as 64Mo ram!) but this is *not* a complain, this memory is really little nowaday. Well, 10.3 was dog slow, at installing, but 11.0 is super fast. As for "only" having 512MB, I regularly run with 256-512MB. I did install 11.0/Beta2 on a PowerMac 6500 with 128MB RAM. It was SLOW, but it worked. Missing stuff ? 11.0 was *designed* to be a faster install and have better package management.
