Do you have a script on how you changed the references? I would appreciate receiving it if you have one. If not, any hints on how you went about this would be helpful. Thanks!!

Did you know that you also have to replace referenes to your /dev/cua devices by references to /dev/ttyS devices? (Doing so doesn't affect this problem, though.)

I expect the SuSE update facility for 6.0 handles this - but I did it in effect manually. I looked in /sbin/init.d/* (the various startup files) for references to cuaN and changed each one to ttySN. Then I deleted all the /dev/cuaN files. The system with these changes still works under the 2.0.34 kernel, actually. Hardly elegant, I know!
