[SLE] Changing CDs with NFS install, ugggh
I got the NFS install to work but then had trouble changing CDs. It would not let me umount the CDROM. I finally tried rnfsserver restart and that worked, but not until after the install had failed. Now that I know how to handle it I don't think it will be a problem in the future. Just wondering if others had the same troubles, and how they handled it. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

I am not sure if this applies to your situation or not, but it is interesting to note: If you have more than one system to install from the NFS server you might consider copying all of the contents of the CD's onto the NFS server and they you will not have to change CD's. For example, create a directory /suse/7.0/all/ and copy the contents of each CD into that directory, and do not forget to copy the 'dot' files as well (eg: .S.u.S.E-disk-001.2000080317): cp -av /cdrom/* /suse/7.0/all/ cp -av /cdrom/.* /suse/7.0/all/ Next you have to export the directory (/etc/exports) and restart the NFS server (rcnfsserver restart) and that should do it....

I have used this method w/o problem in 6.4 and 7.0. Make sure you are not in the CDROM directory on the system when you try to unmount... That is... do a cd / before you issue the UMOUNT /cdrom command Robert

I found nothing better but stop nfs, umont cdrom, start nfs again, mount next CD. Quite a boring experience with NFS install. -Kastus

What you describe appears to be a feature of kernel nfs. The old userspace nfs would let you change cd's. I've seen the same problem. eric Kastus wrote:
