"top" command consuming lots of CPU...
Hello: What could be the reason for "top" consuming about 80% of CPU time whenever it is invoked? My OS version: Linux version 2.4.21-199-default (root@i386.suse.de) (gcc version 3.3.1 (SuSE Linux)) #1 Fri Mar 12 08:27:41 UTC 2004 (SuSE 9.0 Pro) Regards, Martin -- Dinamica - RADical J2EE framework open source, easy and powerful http://www.martincordova.com

A very "small" CPU or a very short delay time. Try changing the delay time with the 'd' command. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/ - managed anti-spam and anti-virus solution. Let us analyse your spam- and virus-threat - up to 2 months for free.

There was a version when top wrongly reported idle time as used cp time by top. You could have that one. Or you may have a very slow machine, and top does use that many resources. Try "uptime", "ps"... - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDtcpTtTMYHG2NR9URAvYqAJoDC2HXfCd6iiIx0T8fDVDykpAH3wCeJS0w prgCGaTdfc/RRWeqq0RqrEc= =ZMFR -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
