Mozilla seems to be broken in SuSE 9.0. It works, but if you touch the keyboard to type anything it crashes. I have tried 1.4 and 1.5 and it is the same. I saw a post suggesting there was a problem with the firewall setup but this is nonsense. If you can only get Mozilla working with this sort of work-a-round it is a serious problem, maybe not as bad as Mandrake 9.2 but not far off. Am I the only one who thinks 9.0 is not quite finished? I have been a user since 6.0 and 9.0 seems very rough compared to 8.2. Nick
not far off.

some of the shit that appears to be broken on 9.0 make no sense. i mean , this is not version 3.1, we are talking about 9.0.... makes me wonder if i should buy it

Just the usual point-nought teething troubles. If you need absolute stability, wait for the bunch of updates which will be forthcoming, or 9.1. Mind you, 9.1 will have the new kernel, so that might have a few problems too. Just think yourself lucky you're not using Mandrake. Hundreds of megabytes of updates, CD ROMs frying, and it's only been out the door a few weeks. --

My guess it is something about 9.0 that is causing this. I have actually used the 9.0 Mozilla rpms for 1.5 without problems on my 8.2 setup. I know there are some changes with Gnome things in 9.0 and wonder if that is not the problem. I mentioned earlier about some files, libgsf, uploaded to the KDE respositories just recently that are 9.0 rpms. Installing them breaks 8.2 Gnome and compiling for Gnome. Spent a few hours tracking that one down! Unless of course, the 9.0 Mozilla rpms are built with 8.2 Gnome locations in mind rather than 9.0? I suppose that would be possible also and it is having trouble locating things in 9.0 SuSE? Not sure yet, why the Gnome things were changed either. I am using the 1.5 tar.gz files from mozilla.org installed in /usr/local and I've only had one funny in 9.0 where clicking on the Inbox in mail just brought up the hour glass, no messages listed. I had to exit mozilla to correct it and it's been fine since. No problems with 1.5 so far in 8.2. Regards Sid. BandiPat wrote:

it's definitely the firewall setup. Because we got many bugreports that SuSEfirewall2 does not block IPv6 traffic the maintainer does now block ALL IPv6 traffic even over the loopback device. This is really no good solution. If you would block all IPv4 traffic over your loopback-device only a few programs will still work ;-) I would suggest the following change (not tested yet in that form): change line 302 in /sbin/SuSEfirewall2 to $IP6TABLES -P OUTPUT "$ACCEPT" and add after line 528 in /sbin/SuSEfirewall2 $IP6TABLES -A INPUT -j "$ACCEPT" -i lo CU, Wolfgang Rosenauer -- SUSE LINUX AG -o) Tel: +49-(0)911-740 53 0 Deutschherrnstr. 15-19 /\\ Fax: +49-(0)911-740 53 489 90429 Nuernberg, Germany _\_v simply change to www.suse.com

it's definitely the firewall setup.
I can confirm that. I can enable and disable the mozilla problem by enabling and disabling SuSEfirewall2

and add after line 528 in /sbin/SuSEfirewall2 $IP6TABLES -A INPUT -j "$ACCEPT" -i lo
I just tried your suggestions and then ran ldconfig and SuSEconfig and finally rebooted. It does not work. Do we need to run any special system stuff after changing these two lines? Best regards :o) Johnny :o)

until I check what's wrong you can disable IPv6 completely if you don't need it: If you do not need IPv6 support you can deactivate it by changing the file /etc/modules.conf as follows. Change alias net-pf-10 ipv6 #alias net-pf-10 off to #alias net-pf-10 ipv6 alias net-pf-10 off You have to reboot after this change. Thank you. This works. Now mozilla does no longer freeze and KHelpcenter loads in a few seconds. I hope you find a solution for the people who need IPv6 Best regards :o) Johnny :o)
Would this also affect samba client as I cannot get the client to work with the firewall2 even after enabling port 139 which it complains about? Art On Mon, 2003-10-27 at 22:12, Wolfgang Rosenauer wrote:

I have both 1.4 and 1.5 here, I use 1.5 because of the SPAM filtering it offers. I'm not using SuSE firewall, then again I can't see what in the firewall would cause a mozilla crash -- unless some library that mozilla uses gets changed when the firewall is activated. Regards Sid. Nick Murphy wrote:
