I received a Sony Mavica FD85 for Christmas, the jpeg photos and mpeg saved on a regular 1.4 floppy with a .htm file work great with SuSE, and kfm. I clisk on the .htm file and it lists all the photos on the disk, just click on a link and the phot is brought up with kview and I use MTV to view the mpeg video. Sony sells a memory stick and floppy adapter to work with this camera, does anyone know if that will work with linux as well or does it require windows software? If windows only, does anyone know of any work being done to port a linux product? thnaks in advance joe

I have a Sony DCR-PC100E (2-in-1, video + photo) and I have been loading my photos to Linux with a wonderful program called gphoto (included in the CD's, but there's a more recent version on the web)... now, I have a Sony Handycam Serial Port Adapator MSAC-SR1, which might be different from what you've (or are planning on getting) I suggest that you download the latest version of gphoto and see what cameras and devices are supported... there are several Mavica's there... IIRC, their website also has a list. Let me know if you need further hints... gphoto is still on the "developing side" and can be tricky! I stopped using W&*%$ altogether since I discovered gphoto on this priceless mailing list... Hi, I have just been in communication with Sony Europe on this point as I have a wonderful Sony DSC-P1 camera which I bought myself for christmas ;)) Essentially the floppy adapter only works with a straight internal floppy drive. Following is a copy of their response to me as i had error messages in windows with my LS120 <p>"Thank you for your email. There could be several reasons for this message appearing. What type of floppy disk drive do you have ? The adapter is not compatible in Laptop floppy drives, any external floppy drives or LS120 type drives. If you are running on a desktop PC with a standard floppy disk drive (non of the above) then can I suggest that you ask your dealer to check that the batteries on the adapter are charged and are not flat. If the batteries are flat then it will also show this message. Please also ensure that the drivers supplied with the adapter are installed. Kind Regards Miss Rebecca Hale Sony United Kingdom Limited (Consumer Products Group" <p>In a further e-mail i asked about linux support for their cameras to which the response was "none planned". Consequently the Floppy Adapter will only work under windows AFAIK and the software comes with the Adapter. I now have one for sale, any offers:)) -- Stu "The specification said Windows 95 or better, so I installed Linux"
