[opensuse] KDE3 not starting
Hello list, From today, kde3 will not start properly on my 10.3 machine (x86). KDM works, and after entering password, the splash screen appears, but gets stuck with no progress. Eventually the splash screen goes away, but nothing happens. Looking at the task list, kdeinit and startkde continues to run, but nothing appears to be happening. I'm using the official 10.3 repo's, along with KDE:/KDE3 repo for 10.3 Xorg is behaving, and gnome/fluxbox etc. works fine. Even starting individual kde/qt apps (e.g. klipper) in one of those environment works. Removing ~/.kde did not affect the problem in any way. Where do I look for logs files, or other relevant information ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Have you tried killing your .ICEauthority ? Try rm'ing that to see if it has some problem with it. Can you log into any other DE like TWM? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No dice, the same thing happens.
Can you log into any other DE like TWM?
Yes, I have tested with gnome, fluxbox and fvwm, and I can run kde applications such as konsole, kate etc. in those. /Sylvester -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It works if I log in as root. Creating a new user and logging in with it, does not work, still not starting. The only thing I see in ~/.xsession-errors is (for myself, and newly created users): startkde: Starting up... cannot convert KDE_FULL_SESSION argument to STRING or COMPOUND_TEXT. For root I see: startkde: Starting up... cannot convert KDE_FULL_SESSION argument to STRING or COMPOUND_TEXT. kbuildsycoca running... DCOP Cleaning up dead connections. /Sylvester -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
