If you are itnerested, get it before the Slashdot folks learn about it... ---beging quote-- ftp to metalab.unc.edu, it's in the /pub/linux/apps/www/browsers directory as opera-19991224.tar.gz. Just do tar -xzvf opera-19991224.tar.gz, cd into the new opera directory and do ./runnow and voila! Opera! Don't expect perfection yet, though- but it's so nice to finally see a great alternative on the horizon. Uses only 5 megs RAM while running too.... ---end -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Yes, well..BETA it is..I can't seem to save any of the preferences with Opera. I am not sure if it's the fact that I am still running QT 2.0 and not 2.1...we shall see when I upgrade to 6.3 if this problem gets fixed. I would love to hear from anyone else who has downloaded it...if you can save your various preferences. So far..if one can not save them..it looks like even M12 of mozilla has it beat. I downloaded that a couple of days ago and it seems to be function and kinda cool. I guess it's now a race between mozilla and opera...although mozilla at least has a very function mail client...and that's a leg up in my opinion because I have yet to find a mail client I like under Linux..yeah, I know..mutt, pine, XFmail..etc..etc..it's just that I was a Eudora user for years when I use to run Windows and loved that program..I guess it's Netscape Messenger for now. Happy Holidays to all.

I tried Opera on SuSE 6.3, it acts the same way, most of the options, menu selections are not yet implimented. I also found that certain web pages that have buttons tthat you click to submit information do not work. However, it sure is a lot faster than M12 on my system, big difference. M12 has more features but is really sluggish on my system, even Netscape is faster. Perhaps when the remove the debugging code, it will run as fast as Netscape. I'll buy Opera if it performs well and does everything the windows version does etc. and it is better than Mozilla, but if Mozilla is better, I'll just use that. joe -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I did not have that error with SuSE 6.3, but had a similar error loading Mozilla M12, had to download the library from ftpsearch.lycos.com to my /usr/lib and run ldconfig to get M12 to load. Opera seems fast, but needs a lot more to be finished. Actually kfm is faster than netscape on my system, but doesn't handle everything as well as Netscape does. It is noce to know there are good alternatives on the horizon. joe -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
I take back everything hopeful and positive that I said about opera it is for crash test dummies. I went too two sites then crash restarted went to another site crash crash. Maybe the java did it but it suxs. L8R Ian jljr@pa.net writes:

Im not going to blame opera but it did feel like revenge for the those bad things i said about it some weeks ago :-/ anyway - is there a chance to try and save this disk ? It doesnt look good - i tried it on another Linux system and on some macs and it doesnt show up at all !? any help appreciated - ve

well the hard disk is definitely dead. It spins momentarily at boot (linux & mac) but then stops. tried it on several machines/scsi cards. Cant be read or identified. Also the AHA1542B scsi is definitely refusing to function. Tried it on several machines. It gave a good 10 years service so maybe thats that too ? Is it possibly (sorry about this!) a year 2k issue ? the adaptec www site mentions nothing about bios problems with these cards but it does seem like a bios problem rather than hardware. Any bios gurus here? can anyone tell me what is likely to have killed this disk and scsi card like that anyway ? i dont want a repeat performance with new hardware ... thanks for any help -ve
