[opensuse] Firefox Mail-To
I'm having an issue trying to get Firefox (3.01 32-bit) to activate mailto links in KMail. I know I had this working in 10.2 but it doesn't seem to work in 10.3. (I should have dealt with this several months ago, but am just on it now, and have no plans to move to 11.0, even if it is louder.) I'm running KDE 3.5.7 under 10.3 with kernel 2.6.22.18-0-2. In about:config, I have the following.... network.protocol-handler.app.mailto : kmailservice (I had it set to kmail, but that didn't do anything either.) I have... network.protocol-handler.external.mailto : true network.protocol-handler.expose.mailto : true What am I missing? Searching seems to turn this up as what I need. -- kai www.filesite.org || www.4thedadz.com || www.perfectreign.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

http://lifehacker.com/392287/set-firefox-3-to-launch-gmail-for-mailto-links gave directions, The rest is: Preferences > Applications see 'mailto' (OK now you can proceed) In drop down list click on 'Use other ...' browse to /opt/kde3/bin/kmail , The rest is couple of Yes, OK, Thanks, Done, Close (whatever comes first). How to assign default status? Hmm ... Actually for more fun with GTk interface it is enough to browse to /opt/kde3/bin/ and then start typing kmail. If you are typing slow enough and don't have installed kma<whatever>, after second letter it will find Kmail. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

GTk and fun do not belong in the same sentence. :P

Kia, I had this exact problem 2-3 weeks ago and solved it with posts from the list, but I getting so damned old, I can't recall how? The problem is from a file or two in the old .mozilla/FF install being moved to your new FF directory. There were several files to delete and FF would automatically rebuild them and the problem is fixed. Do a quick search of the archive in the past 2 months and you should find it. Searched, but to no avail. I did find nyah: http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/391668-mailto-does-not-work-firefox.... http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Change%2Bthe%2Be-mail%2Bprogram%2Bused%2... I also saw this, but wasn't sure if it was in any reference to mailto links.... http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/SuSE/2008-06/msg01917.html Seems weird that FF3 now uses sql to store bookmarks when a flat file would do just as well. -- kai www.filesite.org || www.4thedadz.com || www.perfectreign.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Kai, If I recall, the solution is in the last post on the above link. Have you tried deleting mimeTypes.rdf, closing FF, restarting it, then going to preferences -> applications -> and resetting the mailto link. That sounds familiar to me. -- David C. I needed to change from the default set set the explicit path to get it to work. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Good point, Ken, Besides deleting the mimeTypes.rdf, I did navigate and tell it to use /usr/bin/thunderbird. Now in preferences is just shows "Use Thunderbird". For completeness, in FF3 about:config, this is all that I have for 'mailto': network.protocol-handler.expose.mailto;false network.protocol-handler.external.mailto;true network.protocol-handler.warn-external.mailto;false -- David C. Well, I deleted the file. I have only the above items in my about:config, with the addition of some gecko.handlerService.schemes.mailto.0.... items. Did you give it enough time to fill in the page? I found it took a couple of seconds the first time I opened the configuration page. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I gave it half an hour. Nada. -- kai www.filesite.org || www.4thedadz.com || www.perfectreign.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
