What cable ISP are you using? I use @home, and although they provide a static IP, they encourage their users to use DHCP. If you are using @home, you can just use the static they assign. Victor On Mon, 06 Mar 2000 14:26:35 Phil Shrimpton wrote:
Hi,
I am getting a cable modem in a week or so, and my cable company will only assign a dynamic IP address to them to prevent people using web servers at home.
Although I don't really want to run my own web server (it would be nice though), I would like to run my own mail server. I have my own domain registered, but is it possible to do this with a dynamic IP address, if not is there any work around?
Cheers
Phil

I am going to use NTL (I am in the UK, although I think they are a US company). Cheers Phil -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

NTL are part owned by MS! Ugh! Still, I use them because they are the only cable company where I live. I'm glad I do because today they announced free net access (as in freephone) for their subscribers. Those who already use the service are at the top of the queue for the free one. Thing is, their website is totally clogged, so finding info on this is tricky. The cynics amongst us have noticed that their website is not Linux based. Some poorly scaling Microsoft rubbish by the look of it... -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
