[opensuse] Memtest86+ 5.01 won't start from Grub
No matter which rpm from, 13.2 or TW, i586 or x86_64, openSUSE or Mageia or Fedora, or upstream binary, I've never been able to get any build of 5.01 to start from Grub on any Intel CPU system. Trying from Grub and HD simply triggers a reboot. Most recent failures here have been with E8400 Core2Duo on G43 chipset with PC2-6400 RAM, and E6700 Core2Duo on P965 chipset with PC2-6400 RAM. I don't see anything in relnotes to account for this. http://forum.canardpc.com/threads/28864-FAQ-please-read-before-posting indicates running from bootloader on "some computers" fails, resulting in "error 28" and has no workaround. I get no message, just the reboot. 5.01 from DVD boot does work. Anyone else able to run on Intel with 4.20 started from Grub but not 5.01? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Just tested with 13.2 (memtest86+ 5.01) on Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo using grub2 - memtest86+ runs normally when started from menu. Do you mean grub legacy?

grub2 is grub2. Had I meant grub2 I would have written grub2. grub is grub in the filesystem and in the package repos: $ find . -name "grub*rpm" ./Inst/Grub/grub-0.97-194.1.2.i586.rpm ./Linux/Suse/102/grub-0.97-40.i586.rpm ./Linux/Suse/114/grub-0.97-175.176.1.i586.rpm ./Linux/Suse/122/grub-0.97-185.1.2.i586.rpm ./Linux/Suse/131/grub-0.97-194.1.2.i586.rpm ./Linux/Suse/131/grub-0.97-194.1.2.x86_64.rpm ./Linux/Suse/132/grub-0.97-200.1.3.x86_64.rpm ./Linux/Suse/132/grub-0.97-200.1.3.i586.rpm ./Linux/Suse/Factory/grub-0.97-255.1.i586.rpm ./Linux/Suse/Factory/grub-0.97-255.1.x86_64.rpm ./Linux/Suse/Factory/grub-0.97-201.2.x86_64.rpm ./Linux/Suse/Factory/grub-0.97-201.2.i586.rpm $ rpm -qa | grep grub grub-0.97-194.1.2.i586 $ which grub /usr/sbin/grub
