[opensuse] Odd webcam behaviour
Hi All, I have a Dynex 1.3MP webcam. I installed the uvc modules and it works a treat with Skype (both video and sound). However, for some reason, I can't use it any other way. I'm only aware of the gqcam client, and that finds the device, but issues a continuous stream of "Error reading image..." messages, and does not show any image. I changed the permissions on /dev/video0 to 555 (they were 550) just in case--even though Skype was happy with my privileges (and I don't think it's running as setuid--I hope!) but to no avail. Any suggestions? Is there a better client? To be fair, Skype was the main reason I wanted the camera, but I'd like to be able to get the best use out of it if I can. I had a problem once where I could get my webcam working in kopete, but nothing else. I booted something other than KDE and happened to try it again and I was able to get luvcview to work. This made me realize that kopete was grabbing the webcam and keeping a line to it even when I wasn't using it, making me have to shut it down to use anything else. This may not be your problem, but for me it was just that the webcam can't be accessed by more than one process. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
