Dell PowerEdge 2850 and RAID monitoring tools
Hi, are there any monitoring tools for Dell PERC PERC 4e/Di RAID controllers for SuSE. On Dell's site I found drivers only for RedHat. What I need at least is to receive an email if any of the drives fail. Thanks Sunny

Have you thought about using Nagios or Big Brother to do system monitoring for this? Also, I think the current crop of PERCs are Adaptec, not sure since I haven't purchased a Dell in awhile, probably won't until AMD is offered. Anyway, if they are, you might try the Adaptec site to see if they have anything as well. John

Yes, Nagios is on the list. What I do not know is, if it will be enough. I would suspect that some kind of software, which monitors the RAID controller on a low level will be needed. I.e. I need to know if some of the drives in the container has problems (RAID5), so I can take actions immediately. Of course, I may be really offtrack, as this is new for me. But now, I see the whole container as one drive, that's why I think that there should be something else to interact directly with the adapter.

Looks like this one (PERC 4e/Di) is LSI MegaRAID, but I can not find anywhere which of MegaRAID models correspond to Dell's name. And Dell are saying that they support only RedHat. Anyway, I have found some info on Dell's message boards, so I'll give it a try.
John
