-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I got kde3 installed and running, more or less. I haven't installed everything, and it is not clear what I should install. Worse, some packages failed to download and install and I'm not sure how to list them (kdebase did not install, but got it on a second round). One of the things that fails is kcontrol: it is empty. What package should contain the gadgets inside? I need at least to define the language (my intention on installing kde3 is for using kbabel, that runs, but defaults to en_US). I might also install rekall, I have a book database made with that. There is no rekall for kde4? - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I don't know that answer, but here's a list of what I have installed on 11.2 that has KDE3 with working KControl: http://fm.no-ip.com/tmp/SUSE/112/kde3gx260.txt -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." It would be a nice touch, not to mention a helpful gesture, if the friends at KDE would publish a list of packages that should be installed in order to make it possible to run KDE3 until v11.2' presumably, they are in the best possible position to make such an authoritative guide. That would be of great help to those of us who do not feel ready, for one reason or another, to be forced into the radically new KDE4. Arguably, such a guide should have been issued as soon as it was noticed that not everyone was equally enthusiastic about the sharp break with the traditional incremental approach to desktop development. There is really no good reason to deprive the user base of their insight to flounder by themselves.

Then you are in good luck. In Latin, that's called a "non sequitur'.

It is probably intentional. The normal way to do that is simply to provide a metapackage that pulls the installation of the rest by dependencies. The other place to put that is in the wiki; at <http://en.opensuse.org/KDE3> for example they recomend to start with kdebase3-session, which I had missing. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. It works now. I did what Will Stephenson sugested on another thread:
Try running kbuildsycoca --noincremental. This rebuilds the cache of all the .desktop files on your system, including those that define the kcontrol tree.
Then I run "kcmshell --list", got a full list of things. Now my "kcontrol" is full of icons! - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
