Hi there from Adam. Did you try the other utilities for adjusting the sound subsystem? Believe it or not, there is another volume ocntrol on the the RealPlayer, hope you have place all the way to the right. Check the loudspeaker control, the RealPlayer actual adjusts the PCM out, the Master and Master Mono out, etc. Good luck.

Using 9.3 default install/update of real and have no problem with sound. Right you are Ken, But... when there is sound, it comes out on the winders box just fine, but nothing -- nada -- out of the Suse Box?? All of the KDE sounds play just fine, so I'm stumped as to why Real Player won't work. Any other suggestions?? My player is RealPlayer 10.0.5.756 (gold) -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Are you sure artsd is not in the way? Have you tried starting realplayer with artsdsp? Charles -- We are Pentium of Borg. Division is futile. You will be approximated. (seen in someone's .signature)

OK, I downloaded the rpm and took a look at it, I see realplayer now uses a shell script to start. Try starting it with the attached modified shell script. If it works, put this in /usr/lib/RealPlayer10 Charles -- We are Pentium of Borg. Division is futile. You will be approximated. (seen in someone's .signature)

Damn your Good Charles! I have sound now. What in the heck does that script do that wasn't being done before??? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Rankin Law Firm, PLLC 510 Ochiltree Street Nacogdoches, Texas 75961 (936) 715-9333 (936) 715-9339 fax www.rankinlawfirm.com

Nothing special, I just changed realplay.bin to start with artsdsp. Charles -- "Besides, I think [Slackware] sounds better than 'Microsoft,' don't you?" (By Patrick Volkerding)

Ok, I see where you inserted artsdsp. But the question is "Why was this required on my system??" It is a stock 9.3 system with official updates from opts.tamu.edu?? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. It looks like on 9.3 artsd is not set to auto-suspend by default (you can do this in kcontrol). However, if you use that method, no other kde apps and other apps (unless you have a multi-channeled card) can output sound during your realplayer playback. It works fine for me, both audio and video. However, I've noticed there are often long periods without sound, so perhaps that's why you're not hearing anything.
