Did you add users for your Win 95 machines on you linux machine? Also you need to add your ISP name servers to /etc/rc.config. Add the Win 95 machines to /etc/hosts. Configure the Win 95 machine to use the linux box as a gateway and I think as a name server. Also there is a script on the Suse site on Masquerading/firewalls that you need to pick up.
Actually, the users were on the Linux box before they got added to the Win95 machine, and the same users are on both. (I've got the Win95 machine set up for individual profiles). There is a box on the Win95 in the Tcp/ip protocol that I checked for a gateway server and gave the Linux IP address. It still came up with an unathorized error so I also checked the proxy box. I haven't found a file on the Win95 machine to declare name servers, tho I finally found the Hosts and Networks files and put my linux box name and address in both those files. I do know that /etc/resolv.conf is used to declare the nameservers in Linux, does that mean I need to "create c:\windows\resolve" to declare my linux box as a name server?
I don't think that RARP is necessary. My ISP is dynamic also. You really don't need to set that up in Masquerading. I think that if you have your ISP nameservers entered in /etc/rc.config, when win 95 tries to access outside sites your linux box routes to the ISP name servers. So really you linux box routes to your ISP who routes to the outside world.
I did just check, and all of my ISP nameservers are listed in /etc/rc.config (though I did have to make one minor change as one of my nameservers changed from a .com to a .net, but I still have to run yast to update the /etc/resolv.conf)
Hope this helps
Helped quite a bit:-) as soon as I finish reading the mail, I plan to check the suse sight to see if I can find that script you're talking about:-) Thanx Loads! -- cya l8r Leon McClatchey <A HREF="mailto:leonmcclatchey@homemail.com">mailto:leonmcclatchey@homemail.com</A> Party on Linux:-) -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
