[SuSE Linux] Why RPMS designed for RedHat 5.x don't necessarily work on SuSE 5.2?
I went to ftp.kde.org and downloaded the KDE 1.1pre1 set or RPMs for Redhat 5.x since there were none in the SuSE directory! When I installed the base package, it screwed my K instalation to the point it wouldn't go pass the log on point. removing that and instaling an older package meant for SuSe helped the problem. But why? - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>

It's the old libc5 vs. glibc2 problem. Didn't the rpm's refuse to install and give a warning that there were "failed dependencies"? Or did you force them? - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
