Where can I find patches for the standard SuSE kernel so that I can upgrade. Phil
I installed the plain vanilla kernel sources and downloaded the patches from linux.org to upgrade from 2.4.4 to 2.4.16. I can now easily susify my vanilla kernel with a patch from the suse web site. or you can search the suse website for the suse specific patches. eg. If you are using kernel SuSE-2.4.10 and want to upgrade to SuSE-2.4.16 you should download patches from 2.4.11 to 2.4.16. It is a good idea to install the SuSE kernel sources rpm. then copy the sources to a new directory /usr/src/SuSE-2.4.16 then apply the patches. please look at the readme files for instructions on patching. If you need further assistance i can e-mail to youi instructions on configuring and compiling the kernel. good luck HARRY Philip Burness wrote:

How about just getting these rpm's? Why both doing all the patching that SuSE does yourself when Hubert has done a tremendous job of it. It's a lot of needless work. Get these...here: k_deflt-2.4.16-22.i386.rpm kernel-source-2.4.16.SuSE-24.i386.rpm modutils-2.4.12-11.i386.rpm And if you use ReiserFS..get this as well.. reiserfs-3.x.0k_pre10-8.i386.rpm You can find them here... ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/7.3/kernel/2.4.16-20011220/ Cheers! * Philip Burness (pburness@btinternet.com) [011224 13:44]: ->Where can I find patches for the standard SuSE kernel so that I can upgrade. -> ->Phil -> ->-- ->To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com ->For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com ->Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq and the ->archives at http://lists.suse.com -> -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
After installing the files mentioned is it also necessary to run mk_initrd or is that taken care of by the installation through Yast Mike On Monday 24 December 2001 18:30, Ben Rosenberg wrote:

The new modutils rpm that's in the directory. 4. I'm in the process of upgrading from SuSE 6.3 to 7.3 and decided to go ahead and upgrade to the latest kernel at the same time. I have k_deflt and modutils installed but when I try to install kernel-source I receive the following message: error: failed dependencies: lx_suse conflicts with linux-2.4.9-4 Should I be installing the rpm differently than rpm -Uvh? Should I be doing something prior to installing the rpm? Thanks, Skip Ben Rosenberg wrote:

I have noticed this thread running and thought that I might have a go at it. I have Suse 7.2. Never had any success at installing a kernel to date.
From the files listed, in what order should they be installed? I would appreciate any hints.
