Interestingly I tried in konsole
mozilla WildFire.swf and it played sound and picture.
I am going to try a few more but that is strange needing to separately
download and run in konsole.

Carl - Thanks for posting on this. I really thought I had gone nuts. I've looked at all the permissions I can find, and I just know it has to be something I'm not seeing. This is one of those weird "it worked once and I used YOU and now it didn't". I'm using KDE, so this has to have come from either the recent kernel update or perhaps the latest KDE updates. I have a very plain vanilla system. I don't feel like risking anything on my production box by updating the kernel (SuSE 9.0 with 2.4.21-215-athlon kernel) because being able to listen to Flash noises isn't important compared to having everything work.
