Hi, Currently I have two servers running on Suse Linux 7.3. One is an Oracle server. The other serves as a PDC (primary domain controller). There are 10 Winx client computers connecting to the PDC server. The network is up and running smoothly. However, I can see all Winx clients on PDC server except the Oracle server. My question is what should I do in order to see the Oracle server on a PDC server. Please note they are in the same network. --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? First, I assume that both computers have a static ip address. Check your routing table (on the Oracle server) with the netstat command: netstat -nr I suspect that your routing table is set up incorrectly. You can correect this in YaST2 (Network Basic) or YaST1. Hi Jerry,
Thanks for your quick response. I do appreciate it. Followed your direction, I already checked my routing table with the netstat -nr command. I noticed that I have the same information on both servers. I did go to YaST2 (Network Basic) then learn that the automatic address setup (via DHCP) is checked. My conclusion is the Oracle server does not have a static ip address. Any ideas? Please let me know your solution for this problem. Thanks for your help.

Normally, servers don't use dynamic IP addresses because you want an IP address to be reasonably persistent. But, in this case it does not matter. The routing table on the oracle server should have a default route to the same subnet the PDC server is on. Also, since you have a dynamic IP address, you need to make sure that the host name for the oracle server reflects the proper IP address. The first thing to do is to ping the Oracle Server's IP address from the PDC server. (If the PDC is the DHCP server, then things probably are set up ok). Your routing table should look somewhat similar to my home machine: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 40 0 0 eth0 0.0.0.0 192.168.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 40 0 0 eth0 Note that the subnet is 192.168.0. The windows to the outside world is my router, which is 192.168.0.1. The important issue is that you want to make sure that the Oracle's routing table is correct. (DHCLIENT should generate this automatically based on YaST). I routinely boot my laptop up in several different networks (daily - home and corporate by dhclient), weekly at Northeastern - DHCP), and monthly at MIT - static IP. Until I upgraded to SuSE 8.0, all this was set up under YaST1. On 6 Jun 2002 at 10:01, Meomeo Nguyen wrote:
