Tripwire & Dial in and some self help
Hi All, I have just purchased a copy of 8.2 pro. I have also purchased a HP laptop, so I can put SUSE on it and just play with it and hopefully set up a machine to play with some security stuff. I have used Suse on and off for about 3 years, work always seems to get into the way though. I am trying to use the documentation to allow for me to learn as I play. I am having problems getting Tripwire to work, it gives me an error message stating that it cannot read the config file or it is not in the correct format (tw.cfg), and I get an error message about not having sufficent permissions on kppp, and to make sure that I have the file owned by root and the sticky bit set. I have done this and I am still not able to dial out, and when I try to play with Tripwire I get the same error messages. I would appreciate it if someone can offer up some of the following information Where is a good reference for learning security, and using linux as a security tool ? Where is a good place to look on my suse system to find out more information about what the errors mean and how to trouble shoot them for myself. ? Thanks in advance. Shane Broomhall Brisbane Aust

About Tripwire itself, you need first to "compile" the config file into a binary, encrypted format. For more details, see /usr/share/doc/packages/tripwire/. Paulo Jan. DDnet.

And for the kppp problem, did you su and then chmod 4755 kppp ? This fixed the problem for 3 or 4 uf us some time back. John - -- I needed fresh bugs for my SuSE gecko, and Linux penguin. So I went out and caught this huge ugly blue and red and green and yellow butterfly. They won't need fresh food for 3 months now. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE++INfH5oDXyLKXKQRAu5pAKDGByCKt9VlUN6001+kNv5WFzA1XQCfTUsJ +yrGd/9qpEfX5+AYrPXyHlg= =90J0 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
