[opensuse] MS VX1000 webcam
I bought a Microsoft VX1000 USB webcam at the local Staples - little choice as their webcam set has little overlap with mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html ... The VX1000 with gspca driver works with Kopete but the colours are horrible. Does anybody know how to improve that? With WinXP the colours are right. Open a bug report at bugs.kde.org, product kopete, component avdevice, and attach a picture of the horrible pictures. Then I'll take it up with the kopete team webcam guy and see if we need to support a different pixel format. BTW: UVC cameras are very well supported under Linux (uvcvideo driver) and Kopete too now, and provided a better image in my experience. Thanks. I submitted a report at bugs.kde.org but didn't see how to attach a png-file. I mentioned that red turns blue. I don't think it's a Kopete bug. Skype for Linux shows the same false colours.

How can I recognise UVC webcams in a shop? Robert

Browsing http://linux-uvc.berlios.de/ is probably your best option to find uvcvideo supported cams. I'm looking at a Philips SPC525NC box on my desk and all it says w.r.t. driver is "Works with Windows Vista". They even put a sticker on the usb plug that says "Stop! Install software before connecting". Totally ridiculous. For some reason beyond me they fail to promote the simple fact that their cam (like any other UVC compliant cam would) works out of the box in opensuse and probably any other contemporary linux.
