Re: [SLE] Suse 7.1 and RealPlayer8--> --ignorearch
I have RP 8 installed, but Netscape isn't cooperating. I can invoke
it from the command line with the URL and it works. It just won't do
anything when I click on the link in NS. Any suggestions/hints?
TIA,

I also suffered from this, but it was made clear by somebody at the Realaudio message board: use option "--ignorearch" when running rpm ('rpm -ivh --ignorearch ...'). Are you installing on AMD?
I installed RP8 on a PIII (no problem) and on an AMD K6-II (--ignorearch needed).

Works excellent with 7.0 on my box.
Run the plug script that comes with it.

The pluginstall.sh script was already run as part of installing the
RPM.

I don't know if this is already solved. From my point of view there are
two main points:
-The rpm for Linux downloadable from Real has some bug that causes it
not to expand on non Intel processors. This is solved with rpm
option --ignorearch.
-With RP8 installed you should be able to reproduce local .ra, .rm,
.smi, etc. But for realplay to execute correctly being called from
Netscape I had to do some tweaking (I don't know if there is an
automated procedure): Modify -> Preferences -> Navigator -> Real Audio
clips executed with realplay %s. I don't remember if this was explained
with detail somewhere.

As root or as the user that will run RealPlayer? It should be run as the user, because it adds some files to ~/.kde/ and ~/.netscape To get KDE2 to recognize it, you might have to copy the RealPlayer files from ~/.kde to ~/.kde2 Regards Ole

A guess --- you installed as root. The install shell script put the library and classes in /root/.netscape/plugins. You need to run those scripts while logged in as you. There are two scripts and they are in /usr/lib/RealPlayer8 and have an extension of *.sh JLK

That plus an old install that left REALPLAYER_HOME pointing to a
non-existant directory.
