sendmail/new isp
Chad and Jim, Hi, thanks for your suggestions. Perhaps I should have added that this is just a single user machine with a dial-up connection. All that I am trying to do is to send my mail through my new isp's server as I did with my other isp. The entry in my sendmail.cf is DSsmpt.btinternet.com and relay-domain is smpt.btinternet.com. Everything works great. But when I change the files I listed in my first post to reflect the new isp it doesn't work. It has me puzzled as I don't know what else to possibly change. I am including a portion of the /var/log/dead.letter from when I try to send an email to DallamWych@netscape.net. The original message was received at Sat, 16 Feb 2002 10:21:02 GMT from suse@localhost ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- DallamWych@netscape.net (reason: 550 Host unknown) ----- Transcript of session follows ----- 550 5.1.2 DallamWych@netscape.net... ^^^^ Maybe you have a typo in your config file. It looks like it is looking for smpt.mail.virgin.net. It should at least be smtp (and I would think smtp.virgin.net). If this is only single user, though, you could just configure your mail client to send directly to them (instead of being relayed through your sendmail). Argh! Yes, it was the typo that was messing me up, thanks for pointing it out to me. All is working well now with the new isp. Many thanks again.
