I noticed that ever since I installed SuSE 6.3, my cdrom module loads and scans at each boot up. This really increases boot up time. I am using the sbpcd module With the default settings for my soundblaster pro cdrom. I never had this problem before ( didn't do this in previous releases 5.3- 6.2) so I don't know where the file is located that needs edited to stop this unnecessary scanning. Can anyone tell me which file I need to edit? I tried using YaST and selecting the soundblaster pro module again, but it doesn't seem to change it. I also looked at the rc.config and modules.conf, but could not find any mention of scanning. According to modules.conf: options sbpcd sbpcd=0x230,1 this is correct, yet the module still scans for another cdrom ( I think some kind of lasermate cdrom ). thanks in advance, joe -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Hi all, I have my Suse installed quite a while now. Still can figure out how(if possible) to receive and transmit email to and fro local Microsoft email exchange server. I would be very appreciated if someone could give some pointers for below situations. I don't quite clear about the conceptual operation of email between MS exchange server and linux. Here is the situation.Let say, MS email domain is xxx.yyy.com, do I need to set linux domain name as mysuse.yyy.com where mysuse is the hostname. What if I use different domain name in linux. And if I login into linux as myname, as such my email address will be myname@mysuse.yyy.com, which is the registered user account in MS exchange server. How does MS know the email address(myname@mysuse.yyy.com) set in linux, and vice-versa ? I tried my best to describe what I don't understand fully. Hence, some terminologies might used wrongly and similarily on the email operations. Please be patient with me ;-). Appreciate any comments, suggestion. The Exchange server would have to be contacted using true standard protocols like POP3, IMAP, and SMTP. AFAIK, there is no proper way for a Linux box to take advantage of the Exchange server's proprietary protocols. It's half up to the administrator to configure the Unix protocols, and half up to you to pick and configure your mail client appropriately. -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

The modules.conf is correct: options sbpcd sbpcd=0x230,1
My system does not have a sbpcd.h file, at least it doesn't show up using locate.
Everything works, it just takes a lot longer to boot up because of the time wasted scanning for a "lasermate ?" cdrom that is not there.
Maybe the cdrom driver is loaded using the inital ramdisk. Have a look at the variable INITRD_MODULES in /etc/rc.config. Does the sbpcd appear in there? If you do not need the CD-ROM driver at bootup, just remove this entry from the list and rerun "mk_initrd". If you want to load it at bootup time, you may have to pass this parameter by using LILO (/etc/lilo.conf).
