it's a bug and suse hasn't felt like fixing it.
Really? Why?
And before you make unfriendly statements like those, keep in mind that those kernel rpms are not officially part of the distribution, and are solely supplied by some hard-working SuSE employee for your benefit. Take it or leave it. And you could always suggest a fix if there is a problem.
I disagree. SuSE widely advertised that no /boot ext2 partition was needed anymore and reiser boots fine now without ext2 anywhere. The same problem comes with stock kernel 2.4.4 which comes with the distro. So there is people like me who go ahead and use what is advertised and run into problems. I mean if they worked on reiser working this way why haven't they tried it out at least once. They would have known that mk_initrd wasn't executing properly after an install in this fashion. I report bugs on here occasionally. I mentioned for instance that there is network card modules missing on the suse modules disks as well as yast (e.g. winbond-840 part of regular 2.4.x kernel). I don't count on this being added though since suse's priorities lie elsewhere, maybe rightly so. mk _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

And that's perfectly true. I have not had any problem doing that.

mk_initrd is not magic. Just configure it in yast. ________________________________________________

Yes, and it runs fine here on a lot of systems.

What exactly are you talking about? What do you mean by "mk_initrd was not executing properly"?
I report bugs on here occasionally.
If you want to report a bug, please do it via feedback@suse.de. Do not assume, that we are able to read each and every mail that comes through here, let alone that we are always able to differentiate between user problems and real bugs - we (the SuSE employees) participate on this list on a voluntarily basis. Chances are high, that bug reports are missed, if you do not send them to us directly as well.

Space on the modules disk is very tight. It might have been left off due to space restrictions, simple as that. If you provide me with a list of modules you are missing, I will file a bug report.
