[SLE] SuSE and VA Linux: A good stock?
I notice that there is an article at http://www.suse.com/PressReleases/VApr.html describing a business relationship between SuSE and VA Linux. http://www.valinux.com I have some spare change in my portfolio and want to put some money down on Linux. I have nothing against the major distributor of Linux in the US. I also wish the best of luck to Microsoft's long time rival in Canada. (Spelled See, eh, en, eh, dee, eh) eh? My loyalties lie with SuSE because that's where I started with Linux, and have never had a reason to leave. Anybody have any opinions on Linux stocks vis-a-vis SuSE? SuSE shares are not publicly traded.

Philipp, I understand that SuSE is privately held. I was just wondering what people think about VA Linux as a stock, and specifically how much effect VA Linux has on the future of SuSE. If SuSE were publicly traded I might try to pick up some of their stock. I don't know how I would do that on the DAX though. Steve Philipp Thomas wrote:

At last, a question on the SuSE list I have some background to answer (MBA Finance) :-) Like any tech stock fresh from from a recent IPO, VA is doubtless seriously overpriced. If you're interested in it as an *investment*, wait another 6 months. OTOH, if your interest is in a quick buck (or DM), and you're willing to hold the stock only until that "greater fool" comes along, and you can tolerate the loss of your investment, you might as well give it a whirl now.
