Can someone please point me to the right place in the archive where it has been discussed how to install the kernel update as YOU is obviously not going to update the running kernel, and I remember that the procedure has been discussed on this forum before. Best regards, Alex.

Well, YOU has absolutely no problem updating a running kernel - but the packages from YOU are security and bug fix updates only. You can go to the /pub directory at the ftp site and get the kernels and use YaST to install them. Realize that the kernels in the /pub directories, for instance mantel's dir, are experimental insofar that they aren't considered production kernels and are used to devel the next release. YOU updated my Athlon kernel no problem. I only had to reboot afterwards.
