[S.u.S.E. Linux] Matrox G200
I had sent an email to the person listed as the maintainer of the SuSE graphics cards database, but apparently that person does not respond to personal email. I am hoping that someone at SuSE can give me an idea of how long it might be before either the new Matrox G200 based graphics cards are either supported through xfree or through a SuSE xserver. I realize I may be asking you to guess, well if so, your guess will be more educated than mine. I really want one of these cards, but I need a card soon, and if this card will not be supported for awhile I will have to get a Millenium 2 instead. Thanks in advance. -- ==================================================================== Michael Lankton <A HREF="http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org"><A HREF="http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org</A">http://tasteslikechicken.ml.org</A</A>> ==================================================================== - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Hmm, I sent you an E-Mail yesterday. Since we were pretty busy with finishing the CD, I was not able to respond to requests about graphic cards. My apologies.

Since it might be interesting for the rest of the group, too, I'll sent this directly to the list. Dirk Hohndel is negotiating with Matrox about getting the documentation. See the XFree-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.xfree86.org/FAQ/#G100"><A HREF="http://www.xfree86.org/FAQ/#G100</A">http://www.xfree86.org/FAQ/#G100</A</A>> : <----8<----8<----8<---- SNIP ----8<-----8<-----8<-----> Q.F29- Is there a server for the Matrox G100 or G200? No. XFree86 is working with Matrox to get the documentation. Once we have that, we will start to work on a server. There is no projected timeframe for such a driver, but since development hasn't started yet, it will be a long time before this changes. <----8<----8<----8<---- SNIP ----8<-----8<-----8<-----> I think, you should start thinking about the Millennium... Well I have a Matrox Millenium G200 8/meg AGP card right now and I've been working with Xi Graphics to get this up at the res & depth I like which is 1600x1200. I recommend the Millenium I or II and not the G200 yet. Best Regards -Dee On Fri, 31 Jul 1998, Lenz Grimmer wrote:

Actually now that I disconnected my voodoo card my s3virge is performing awesome! I think I'll stick with the s3 since it is well supported in xfree, and put that money toward a voodoo2 card instead. I wanted the extra framerate for games anyway, and maybe the voodoo2 doesn't hose your desktop like the voodoo does. Is it likely to be the voodoo card or the pass through cable that is the culprit? And if it is the passthrough cable, are there videophile quality cables available that might eliminate the problem? Dee McKinney wrote:
