Is there any way I can get amarok to set a similar volume on each mp3? Some tracks are loud and others very quiet. google gets too technical too soon for me on the subject and then mainly discusses costly downloads for XP to do the job. Any ideas anyone? The problem is that those mp3 have been recorded differently. There is nothing amarok could do, except save somewhere the volume settings for each different track. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Yes, but there is support for it, though it's not automatic. Something like this http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=26073 Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Am going to packman now. L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes. This can be done via replaygain, which is supported in Amarok 2.1. Just go to settings->replay gain mode-> and choose. Only problem is, you will have to tag the files before. To do this you will need the tool mp3gain (or vorbisgain for oggs). mp3gain you won't find on the build service, but you can get it from the packman repository (which AFAIR you need for mp3 anyways). Once installed, just ran "mp3gain -r *.mp3" on your collection and you should be all set. There is also an album mode which will preserve differences between songs from the same album which is invoked via "mp3gain -r <list of all mp3s of that album>". Regards, Matthias

Install the package mp3gain (it is in the Packman repo) and run your files against it. Type: ,---- | mp3gain -h `---- From a console to see the command line options. Excellent. Can confirm that mp3gain -r *.mp3 on a sample of about 70 songs takes less than a minute. It then plays perfectly in amarok. Is there a way to say 'yes' to adjusting every track it's done? Sometimes it stops and asks you y/n. L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The speed depends on how fast your cpu is. I am on a rather old machine, so I can't say.

This will happen if some of your files will clip if you adjust the gain. Use this command line instead: ,---- | mp3gain -r -k *.mp3 `---- The -k is to "automatically lower Track/Album gain to not clip audio". Hi everyone Not a problem really as when you've done it once it seems to stick. In amarok I chose Settings>Replay Gain Mode>Track Everyone writes their commands as xxx *.mp3 What's the difference between xxx *.mp3 and xxx *mp3? Maybe it's my bad habit. First will catch music.mp3, ie. it will require that file ends with .mp3, while second will find also file discussion_about_mp3 , which, most likely is not music file. -- Regards, Rajko http://news.opensuse.org/category/people-of-opensuse/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
