[opensuse] Evolution 2.12 "reply" locks up on opensuse 10.3
I notice that a lot of people have had good luck with Evolution on opensuse 10.3. I have not. I have been using evolution since the Ximian days and it seems to be increasingly unstable (for me). My biggest problem at the moment is that I can reply only once in each session. When replying the second time, Evo locks and grays out. It does not release if I wait it out. evolution –force-shutdown will usually allow me to restart evolution, but then I cannot reply even once. It treats a response to a calendar meeting request the same way. I can receive email and send new mails OK. Sometimes, it locks up the Gnome main menu bar, and once in a while, the whole Gnome Desktop. Usually the only way I can complete clear out the problem is to restart the X server. Sometimes I have to reboot. When I moved from 10.2 to 10.3, I backed up my /home directory, reformatted everything and installed from scratch, so I don't have any old libraries or corrupt binaries. I do have everything that was in my home directory, so I suppose I could have something corrupted in the those, but I would be surprised that it would have this behavior. I'm still on 10.2, and Evolution is still about the same as it was back in the Ximian days: lots of promise (especially the search capability) but a few really annoying bugs that seem to have been there since the beginning.
My biggest problem at the moment is that I can reply only once in each session. When replying the second time, Evo locks and grays out. It does not release if I wait it out.
Evolution tends to lock-up n me for two reasons: 1) My Inbox is huge, and every 24 hours or so it locks up as if there were a memory leak gone hard. 2) Connecting to Exchange and LDAP servers for addresses is extremely slow, usually, and occasionally locks up. Your issue sounds like the latter. Do you have any remote address book servers? If so, I'd remove them and see if the problem persists.

I don't quite trust that. When Evolution locks up, I find everything in the process queue with "evo" in it, and kill all the pids (i.e. "ps auxww | grep evo", then kill all the pids returned).

Any remote calender servers involved? Access to my companies exchange server for calendar data is slow and sometimes broken for me, but never causes a lockup. Chris
