What have SuSE done.
What have SuSE done with 8.0???? When I am doing a clean install of 8.0 prof, I can not get X to work. It is impossible to get my card and screen to work, I have to start YaST everytime when I boot my system, because my usb mouse is dead. I have a nvida card, when I tries to run sax2, my screen go off, there is now way that I can configyre my Xsystem. I then install 7.3 again, using standard system with office, and then everything is ok. Mouse ok,(I do not take the chance to startx sax2, you never know what happens.) Can someone tell me what SuSE have done, please???? Gunnar
Sorry to hear you've had such bad luck with installing 8. I have an nvidia based graphics board and the install went very smoothly and X is running great and 3d is now setup perfectly. I can't comment much on sax2 problems as I've had some as well and just edit XF86Config by hand, but perhaps you could try logging into your machine and using 'sax2 -m 0=nvidia' or if that doesnt work 'sax2 -m 0=fbdev'. ..as root of course. As discussed very recently on this list, there is a bug with the usb mouse config and there is a temporary workaround..found here.. http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/wessels_usbmouse80.html also this input from this list <snip> "Several people have run into problems with USB mice in 8.0. The mouse works fine during the installation but afterwards is dead in X. The problem is a bug in the hotplug script which is being fixed now but as a workaround putting usbcore and usb-uhci into the initrd solves the problem. In /etc/sysconfig/kernel add "usbcore usb-uhci" to the INITRD_MODULES variable, run /sbin/mk_initrd and /sbin/lilo." <snip> Hope some of this helps you. If you want to know what to change in XF86Config by hand just e-mail me direct and I'll let you know. Cheers On Tuesday 07 May 2002 12:33 pm, Gunnar Haaland wrote:

Why not just post it to the list for the benefit of all? This IS a community list of SuSE Linux users you know! Jerry

I have having the same problems. I was getting frequent lock-ups using a Riva TNT2 card. I had to revert back to Red Hat. We running sax2 the system would hang forcing a power cycle. SuSE detected my card as an Nvidia Vanta. I at one point managed to change it to another Riva card but still received the freqeunt locks-ups. Let me know if you find anything out. ~ maybe, if you copy your /etc/XF86Config file across, from RedHat to your SuSE /etc/XF86Config then, maybe, that might fix it ? best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________

P4 Processor? Then check if you have a SMP Kernel Installed. If so deinstall it and install k_deflt. There is a sdb article about that (not yet translated) http://sdb.suse.de/de/sdb/html/wessels_x11p4.html Henne -- Hendrik Vogelsang aka Henne mailto: hvogel<at>hennevogel.de In the event of a dildo, we have to use the indefinite article 'a dildo', never 'your dildo' # random sigs made with fortune
