[opensuse] shutdown without warning Suse 11.0
Hi I have a problem: my PC shuts down once in a while without warning. I do not know where to look for the reason as to why. There appears no crash handler when it has rebooted. Can you please tell me where I might find the problem? What logs should I check? My system stats are below. Thanks for helping me Neil Stats: Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R iP35, SATA2 RAID, GLAN, 8CH Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz 1333 6MB 2x Kingston 2GB DDR3 SDRAM PC10666 CL9.0 Value LG DVD-/+/RAM GH22LP20 22x/22x/16x LS Retail MSI Videokaart PCI-e GeForce 9500GT 512MB 2xDVI/HDMI Silent OCZ Solid State Disk 32GB SATA300, 1C32G Geforce 6300 PCI from my old system (worked fine under 10.3) Some harddisks form my old system (160GB Sata Western Digital 2x, 80 GB PATA Hitachi 1x) -- While working towards the future one should be ensuring that there is a future to work to. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

/var/log/messages round about the time it crashed. Also open up the box and resit all the connections including the ram. Make sure that all your fans work and are not clogged with dust. You might also check the power supply. I just had one that quit. Well, not quit, but would at random intervals just reboot. No messages at all. Once I replaced it the system is much more stable. Hmm, no clues there: Dec 27 14:06:13 linux-ebhs su: FAILED SU (to root) neil on /dev/pts/2 Dec 27 14:21:57 linux-ebhs syslog-ng[2243]: syslog-ng starting up; version='2.0.9' The failed SU was there because after entering SU I decided I didn't need su to do what I wanted (I do not like to use su except for when I really need to) After that I went on reading /var/log/messages (and /var/log/messages.old, so I could find the difference). I continued reading it for some some time but it crashed again. For the programs I have running: I always have Firefox 3.0.4 running but that came with 11.0. Would a cron job writing top to a file once each minute help? In that case I would have the most accurate data possible. I am sorry for the long time in between posts. I had a busy week (lots of dinners with parts of the family) and my PC hasn't crashed a lot since it hasn't been turned on a lot.
