Try clearing the MBR prior to reformatting/repartitioning. Start off a DOS/Windows boot disk and type:
fdisk /mbr

I did format C: using the bootdisk of Windows 98. Then I reinstalled Windows.Reinstall of SuSE. Still prob with partitioning. I suppose if you do format C:,the MBR is changed too? If not, yes, that can be tho problem. But I suppose Windows will not start with the MBR of BSD. Thank's for your help, guys! Jean-Paul Faessen

No, format will not restore the Master Boot Record. You need to do a "fdisk /mbr" first (as previously suggested). M
Hi Jean-Paul,

Formatting does nothing to either the partitioning of the drive, nor the MBR. As others have mentioned using MS-DOS fdisk with the /mbr switch will fix the MBR problem, or installing Windows will do the same thing. But to the root of your problem, I still suspect the best course of action is to remove all partitions from your drive, and recreate the partitioning of your drive. Since using MS-DOS format has no effect on a Linux installation, it most likely will not solve your problem. -Tim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R.
