HELP!! - NIC won't run full duplex
Hello All, I have followed the thread on forcing my NIC to run full duplex. I have tried all of those suggestions to no avail. I have SuSE 7.3 Pro installed on my desktop w/KDE-2.2.2, and Mantel's 2.4.16-4GB-14. Using mii-tool I get 10 bit half duplex no link. If I boot the same machine under COL 3.1 w/ 2.4.4 kernel and KDE 2.1.1, mii-tool shows the card running @ 100 mb full duplex. The card is an SMC1244TX (realtek 8139c chipset). Whatis interfering under SuSE? Is the realtek module buggy in 7.3? I have it set as eth0 rtl8139 in /etc/modules.conf. Regards, Keith B.

mii-tool and mii-diag doesn't work for realtek cards. use rtl8139-diag instead. regards Anders

I have a similar problem with my tulip (Linksys) card and Mantel's kernel. It always comes up at 100mbps/half duplex. Trying to force full duplex using mii-tool results in the link getting downgraded to 10mbps ;) I have written to Mantel sometime back, but got no reply from him. Anyway, those kernels are for testing only, but I run them as they track the latest kernel versions and patches. Looks like there its not just realtek cards having a problem.
