See pattern= and -V according to man page. It looks like -V pattern=/BACKUP/snapshots should do the trick for you.

Hello! I tried this : backup:/BACKUP # star -c -V pat=snapshots -v --file=star.tar . And I see that a snapshots/CENTER.3 directory was written to tape. Any ideas?
