Hello List, - in case of interest : have Intenso 2.5 inch 320 GB External USB Hard Disk ............. after doing : mount /dev/sdc4 /mnt mount -o bind /proc /mnt/proc mount -o bind /sys /mnt/sys mount -o bind /dev /mnt/dev chroot /mnt - i next edited /etc/fstab to have root on /dev/sdc4 & then used Yast to install Grub2 as boot loader ............ after several attempts, have not yet succeeded to boot the Intenso external usb disk - maybe it's just not possible? thanks ......... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Does you external device have that many sectors, or is something pointing past end-of-disk. That sector is about 303 GB into the drive. If the sector is real, you have at least one bad sector. And if that sector is needed for booting, it could be stopping the whole process. How do you know that "/dev/sdc4" is still "/dev/sdc4" when booting from usb? It could very well get another denomination, like "/dev/sda4" - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. alas, boot sector is a part of the disk heavily used in many scenarios, so often there is the failing. AFAIR, if the disk extra sector count is off, the fail of the disk is very close and the hardware should be discarded. 300Gb disk are for free now, so do not hesitate jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
