[opensuse] nm-applet for NetworkManager disappeared on the Gnome panel
I haven't succeeded to get nm-applet to appear on the Gnome panel on 10.2 and 10.3. I know it was there on previous 10.1, which now is over installed with new 10.3 (maybe /home is common). The following NetworkManager packages are installed on 10.3: ~> rpm -qa Network* NetworkManager-openvpn-0.3.2cvs20060202-173 NetworkManager-0.6.5-37.4 NetworkManager-glib-0.6.5-37.4 NetworkManager-kde-0.2r674918-55 NetworkManager-gnome-0.6.5-37.4 NetworkManager-openvpn-gnome-0.3.2cvs20060202-173 I can find the "latter" nm-applet program installed ~> which nm-applet /usr/bin/nm-applet And the nm-applet process has been started automatically during boot ~> ps -el |grep nm-applet 0 S 1000 4030 2853 0 77 0 - 36118 - ? 00:00:00 nm-applet I've tried to restart the sleeping nm-applet process, kill it and start it again from the command line, but still no nm-applet appear on the Gnome panel. And yes, I have the Notification area added on the Gnome panel. Indeed I have several other applets there, OpenOffice quickstart, openSUSE Updater, System Monitor, Headphone and date/clock. Is there any special procedure to try to get the disappeared nm-applet on the panel?? Cheers, Terje J. It's solved: YaST2>Network Devices>Network Card>Network Settings>Global Options> * was set to "Traditional method with ifup" * changed it to "User Controlled with Network Manager" Then the NM applet appeared on the Gnome panel again.
