The reason for this question is that I cannot open a DVD movie with xine and if I try to use Kaffeine it complains that I do not have the proper codecs. Now, I do have every codec known to man AND libdvdcss installed. I can however, navigate to the vob file and Kaffeine plays it properly.
This used to work very nicely in 9.2. Since my "upgrade" to 10.0 it does not. Help me understand/fix this please?
Maybe what you need is another build of Kaffeine itself. From packman for example. Direct link: http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/packman/suse/10.0/i586/kaffeine-0.7.1-3.p m.0.i586.rpm It differs from one shipped with SuSE 10. In my case this one has solved problem with multimedia.

Thanks for the advice, Do have 7.1 installed but was thinking about reinstalling from Packman. What makes me think it is not a kaffeine problem is that I can navigate to the .vob an it will open and play fine. Just the autostart part that gives me that message about codecs. Think I'll give it a try though and see what happens Mike, yes I do have the w32codecs-all installed. Thanks for the thought though. One never knows. Bob S.

Now I don't know about Kaffeine, but with the default xine-ui, you don't have to navigate to the .vob. Have you tried hitting the little DVD button at the bottom of the controller? Just a thought. I know that for the most part, mine doesn't work by hitting the play button. But hitting the DVD button starts the disk. Just a thought. Hi Mike, Still lurking here I see. Nice to see that. Thanks for the info but you misunderstood. The xine-ui works well and properly, It was a problem with Kaffeine that has developed since I upgraded to 10.0 Bob S.
