I have downloaded new kde4 stable packages from SUSE repositories, and I can finally not be able to install kdebase4-workspace package, because it requires a package that still not exists! It says "kdebase4-workspace-plasmoids" is necessary. And now, what can I do, must I create from zero this new package and try to deceit rpm? Well, KDE4 is still very buggy. Or am I blind and I cannot see this mysterious package??? Cheers everybody, AOP. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Um, no, No, NO! first of all it's --nodeps secondly, never ever ever ever ever EVER use --force And even if you for some reason think it's ok for you, please stop recommending it to others I really wish someone would remove that parameter from rpm Anders -- Madness takes its toll -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Lesser of two evils? OP was going to make a fake package to satisfy the deps. I'd think it better to have them missing than something that says it is X but actually not. --force Honestly, I don't know anything about it, accept that if I am trying to get something in simply to test somethings else, and it complains, force it. I assume from your strong reaction, this must create / cause something that can't be undone, forseen, or otherwise deviates from being able to undo any side-effects with rpm -e 'same package that was forced'. I guess I'll use it with a little less impunity. Maybe more of an explanation instead of 'Because I said so'? It's been discussed here so many times before, but ok The main problem is that it hides error messages. An rpm can overwrite files from other rpms, which would normally cause rpm to stop without destroying anything, but with --force it will happily go ahead and ruin the system without a word (and you don't see those errors until you get past the dependency stage, so if you use --force to get past broken dependencies, you won't know what other errors lie ahead) It's also dangerous to recommend --force to beginners, because they will use it for everything with broken dependencies, which will sooner or later lead to a completely broken system that won't boot. I've seen it many times Also, if you ruin the dependency coherence, yast will always complain when you run it, so it's not a good idea to recommend to beginners either --force or --nodeps --nodeps has its uses, if used carefully. I primarily use it when I want to uninstall a package with a ton of dependencies when I know that I will immediately reinstall it or something else that provides the dependency resolution But --force is never needed. There are other parameters that provide the same functionality but which don't hide error messages. If for no other reason, that should lead to its removal: it's redundant and dangerous Anders -- Madness takes its toll -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, of course I know that, but it seemed to me something incredible asking for a package not existing yet! After a while (six o seven hours later...) there was that annoying package. It was only a joke. But I repeat kde4 is not what I expected. Konqueror freezes if webpage has got flash player; "kicker" (I don't know how to name it because kicker is already part of history) cannot be able to configure or simply be taken off; before plasmoids (launcher or something like this) are not included again; kdm is not configurable at all... Finally, kde4 missed that great kde "philosophy": possibility of configuration at its best. Well. I hope all these issues would be in next versions. Cheers, AOP

kdebase4-workspace-plasmoids is there http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE%3A/KDE4%3A/STABLE%3A/Desktop/o... Just use yast to install it and it will get all dependencies for you, so you won't have to search for them yourself Anders -- Madness takes its toll -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
