Re: [S.u.S.E. Linux] Enlightenment DR0.14 coming soon!
I've been having lots of fun trying to install Enlightenment DR0.14 and all the associated libraries on my system. Has anyone had any luck producing libc5 i386.rpm's yet? The rpms on ftp.enlightenment.org are glibc2 based, so unless you've updated to glibc2, it's not worth bothering with them. Unfortunately, the SRPMS have been built with rpm-2.5. The only SRPMS version I could find wants to use /usr/src/redhat/... as the build tree (rather than /usr/src/packages), and installing rpm from source (tar.gz) is a bad move if you've already got a version running, as it'll over- write your libraries, removing all information about previously installed packages - I've done it myself. :( As well as rpm-2.5, I believe patch-2.5 is required as well (not sure what for yet). Does anyone have a libc5 rpm of this? Anyway, please let me know if anyone's having more luck than me. I've included a suggested order and versio details, below. -Karl package ftp version minimum lib dependencies SuSE 5.2 ======= =========== =========== ============ ======== zlib 1.1.2-1 1.1.1 giflib 3.0-2 ? libgr* 2.0.13-10 ? libpng 1.0.1-1 (gives 2.1.0) 2.0.99 libjpeg* 6b-5 (gives .so.62?) 6.0.1 libtiff* 3.4-4 libjpeg-6b 3.4.37 libungif 3.0-4 libgr-2 3.0 gtk+* 1.0.4-1 /sbin/install-info gtk+-perl* 0.2-4 0.2 /sbin/install-info ImageMagick* 4.0.5-4 all above imlib* 1.7-1 1.6 all above fnlib 0.3-1 0.3 all above esound 0.2.4-1 0.2.4 enlightenment 0.14-1 all above ======================================================================== * = needs patch=>2.5 ! = didn't work! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Karl Mitchell=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | Planetary Science Research Group | Secretary, ISPRS WG IV/5 | | Environmental Sciences Dept. | "Extraterrestrial Mapping" | | I.E.N.S., Lancaster University | <A HREF="http://www.ge.ucl.ac.uk/isprs-etm"><A HREF="http://www.ge.ucl.ac.uk/isprs-etm</A">http://www.ge.ucl.ac.uk/isprs-etm</A</A>> | | Lancaster LA1 4YQ, England, U.K. | tel/fax: +44(0)1524 593975/593985 | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=k.l.mitchell@lancaster.ac.uk=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Build from sources or wait for SuSE 5.3 if you must have it in rpm form. Okay. I've built from source, and everything seems fine to start with. Enlightenment comes up like a flash (must faster than DR13). However, when I try to activate any programs by clicking on the relevant icons, an error message pops up saying $EROOT/bin/xxx not found. I've added: EROOT=/usr/enlightenment export EROOT to my /etc/profile, but still nothing! I've also tried setting DISPLAY to ":0.0", but again, nothing. Any ideas? -Karl PS. In case anyone's not found them, there're some new themes at <A HREF="http://technoir.nethead.org/"><A HREF="http://technoir.nethead.org/</A">http://technoir.nethead.org/</A</A>>.

I built mine from sources. It works fine and takes only about 10 minutes to build DR-14 itself so long as you have all the stuff it requires on board. On Tue, 21 Jul 1998, Karl Mitchell wrote:
