[opensuse] Ekiga 3.0.1 in openSUSE 11.1
Has anyone managed to get Ekiga 3.0.1 to work with VoIP providers? Ekiga 2.12 in openSUSE 11.0 worked perfectly all the time.. this new version is making me go bald. I can only get it to tell me "User is not available" now when I try to place a call to the regular phone network. I've wiped the Ekiga settings and set it all up again and triple checked my SIP account settings (and it's registering on my VoIP provider)... still nothing works. Any tips or suggestions here? It works fine for me. Where did you get it from? -- Kind Regards -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The 11.1 oss repository... nothing special... no strange source. I have wiped (again) the settings and set it all up again from scratch. It shows that I am registered with my VoIP provider, but all outbound calls end up with the error message "User is not available" It only takes about a half second for this message to show at the bottom of the Ekiga window after initiating a call. I did manage yesterday to get it to place a call to a German landline, but immediately after, a call to a US landline failed with the User is not available message. I am thinking I might be better off to roll back to 2.12 as released with openSUSE 11.0... but doing that is messy due to dependencies. I've been chattering over on the ekiga mailing list and discovered what the problem is. In Ekiga 2.0.12, you can make a call to a landline by simply typing in the phone number. Ekiga was smart enough to fill in the gaps and connect you with the call. This is no longer the case in Ekiga 3.0.1. In the new version you must type in the *whole* URI... so sip:phonenumber@voip.provider.net or the call will not be placed, and it will appear that there is some error with your connection to your VoIP provider. Alternatively, the auto-complete will add in the missing parts of the URI, but it is not used (in my testing anyway) unless you actually manually select or click on the full URI in the combo box. I feel this is quite a big regression in functionality compared to how it worked in 2.0.12... but maybe I'm missing the point. The developers who are responding to the thread on the Ekiga mailing list do not think really this change is a regression... one of us is missing the point... not sure who though. For now I've rolled back to Ekiga 2.0.12 so save myself the grief and aggravation from the non-computer savy users who use Ekiga on my computer to make phone calls to landlines.
