[opensuse] KDE menu not appearing sometimes
Hello, I have a machine that runs Leap 15.1, updated from 15.0 about a week ago. It has a problem that started back in 15.0. Sometimes the main KDE menu, the one in the bottom left corner, just stops appearing. It can not be conjured by clicks on the icon, nor by the "Windows" key on the keyboard. Logging off and on resolves the issue, until it happens again. It is not clear so far what triggers it, but maybe some game - my son uses this machine and he runs Team Fortress 2 and Minecraft (from Steam). How can I troubleshoot this? I've seen this after a graphic reset e.g. if desktop effects or kwin crash. What I've found is that the context menu for items in the system tray (e.g. Nvdock or some other non-KDE app) appear instead of the desktop menu. Clicking on the relevant icons in the system tray first seems to restore the screen location of those icons and allows the system menu to work again. When it next happens, try right-clicking on the menu button instead of left- clicking, and see if a right-click context menu for something else appears instead. If it does, right click on the correct icon for that item, then come back to the menu button and try again. YMMV.
