[SLE] gaim won't connect on gprs
Hi guys, When I'm connected via GPRS, gaim simply won't log in. It appears to think the computer is offline. If I run gaim -d from command line, I get this: Session Management: ICE initialized. Session Management: Connecting with no previous ID Session Management: Handling new ICE connection... done. Session Management: Connected to manager (KDE) with client ID 10150134cccd000115066581800000035930083 What is the "manager (KDE)" referred to? I assume this is to enable GAIM to show it's status icon in the taskbar of KDE. Are you using Vodacom GPRS? Since my upgrade to 10.1, my GAIM would not connect when I am at Vodacom and I use a proxy in GNOME. I have to disable the proxy in GNOME as Vodacom's proxy does not like the ssh tunnelling that GAIM does (or something to that effect) Now, with GPRS you might have the same problem, but indirectly. AFAIK, Vodacom have a transparent proxy between the GPRS network and the Internet and that might block the GAIM connections. I am still trying to figure out exactly what is causing the problems, but I have not had much time to spend on it. GAIM used to work fine with the proxy before my upgrade. I get this message from the proxy: --<snip>-- proxy: using CONNECT tunnelling for talk.google.com:5222 proxy: Proxy server replied with: Proxy Error ( The specified Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) port is not allowed. ISA Server is not config ured to allow SSL requests from this port. Most Web browsers use port 443 for SSL requests. ) --<snip>-- I don't have SSL specified to work with the proxy (GNOME proxy is only set up for HTTP). For some reason GAIM tries to tunnel SSH via the proxy and I cannot find a setting to prevent it from doing it. -- Andre Truter | Software Consultant | Registered Linux user #185282 Jabber: andre_tux@jabberafrica.org | http://www.trusoft.co.za ~ A dinosaur is a salamander designed to Mil Spec ~ -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
