[opensuse] why does thunderbird always aks me about add-ons?
Often, when I start thunderbird, instead of shownig me my emails it says something like: an addon wants to change your thunderbird (translated from german) I then must click a select box and click "continue" for each add-on. With some of them it asks to restart thunderbird. So I have three restarts until thunderbird finally has the kindness of letting me access my emails. How comes, this program asks me the same again and again? It is really annoying. How can I tell it once and for ever that I really want the add-ons I have installed (mostly spell checkers in different languages)? Any hints? -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Barcelona https://www.patreon.com/danielbauer http://www.daniel-bauer.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I suspect the problem may be with whatever addon was installed, rather than Thunderbird. Is it always the same addon causing this? Is it something you installed? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It always asks me about all of them. It asks me about: - 2 dictionaries swiss-german - dictionary spanish - dictionary french - EMAIL Address Crawler - ImportExportTools - Manualls Sort Folders It also asks me about Lightning and Toggle Word Wrap, which are installed but deactivated. -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Barcelona https://www.patreon.com/danielbauer http://www.daniel-bauer.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have never seen it request a restart multiple times for the same addon. If it was just one doing it, then I'd blame it. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I does not request restart for the same one, but for each one (except dictionaries, iirc). It shows a page for each add-on. With those which need restart, it requires restart, and after the restart shows the next one... -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Barcelona https://www.patreon.com/danielbauer http://www.daniel-bauer.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

That's not normal. Once installed, it should never ask again, generally. There are multiple reports of similar problems with Firefox. They might be relevant & of assistance. E.g.
I have googled and found things about firefox, but not about thunderbird... and emptying the profile or creating a new one wouldn't rally make me happy, as I have thousands of saved mails and several accounts with sub-accounts: a hell of settings I'd have to repeat. I'd love to avoid that... Maybe make a new profile as a test. Hopefully if you do it at a quiet period you'll only receive one or two test messages that you yourself send, and then you can revert to your existing profile once you have a clearer idea of whether the problem is independent of your profile. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Not only that but in the settings for TB you can have TB not delete your mail on the server after it has been downloaded (Accounts>View settings for this account>Server Settings>... ) BC -- "You should never argue about politics or religion. "I" would completely remove the add-on's that appear to be a problem, search for their remnants in ~/.mozilla/... or where-ever the configs are stored. Then reinstall the one's you cannot do w/o and see if the problem is solved. or make a new profile and install those add-on's and see if you still have the same problem. if so, blame the add-on's and report to their authors. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
