sane/hplip driving me, ur... not working
I have an HP PSC 1600 series printer/scanner. I installed this on my SuSE 9.3 laptop a while back and for the sake of starting hplip it "just worked" scanner and all. Now I'm trying to run this on a desktop machine (SuSE 9.3 also, but this one is 64 bit) and although hplip is running and the printer part works a treat, Xsane reports no sane devices. Any suggestions? What was magically working the first time that isn't this time? Cheers, Simon "You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. Are there any other companies offering software scanner drivers for Linux systems? Specifically a Canon LiDE 50. I'm at the stage where I will even consider a commercial one. SANE are supposed to be looking at writing a driver but this message has been on the site for ever (seemingly) now. I'm not knocking the guys at SANE as they do a fantastic job but I would very much like to ditch Windows altogether. -- Take care. Kevan Farmer 34 Hill Street Cheslyn Hay Staffordshire WS6 7HR

Hmmm, it looks like a suck it and see case. My particular model is not listed as being supported. It has the LiDE 20 and 30 but not the 50. SANE already supports the 20 and 30 and I have tried that just in case.... it didn't. I'll download the trial and see if I can get anything. -- Take care.
